The global rabies situation remains serious.

According to WHO, more than 59,000 people die of rabies every year, and most of the victims are children. Over 95% of human rabies cases occur in Africa and Asia, with over 99% of cases due to dog bites.

Mission rabies is a charity which was founded in 2013 with one aim, eliminate dog bite transmitted rabies through a research driven One Health approach. These tireless guys, led by their ideologist Luke Gamble, have already covered India, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, where they have vaccinated more than 1 million dogs and spayed/neutered about 150 thousand dogs. They also implement wide-scale rabies prevention education programs for veterinary doctors and awareness programs for schoolchildren.

The global goal of WHO, Mission Rabies and other organizations concerned by the problem is zero human rabies deaths by 2030.

So, if you are bored to tears by monotonous vaccination of puppies and kittens in your clinic, you can join Mission Rabies on this vehement race. Just be sure to remember about your own immune protection.

Now, what about Russia? Have we won victory over rabies? We are not even close. In 2018, 2,566 animal rabies cases were recorded, with dogs and cats accounting for half of them. Since 2012, 26 people have died of rabies in Russia.

But are there many veterinarians who think about getting protected by preexposure vaccination? Can one set hopes on a lucky star and latex gloves?
This year, the NVC team has decided to join Mission Rabies in its awareness-raising work. We are confident that rabies prophylaxis activities of veterinary doctors  in any part of the world  serve a common goal of saving mankind.
Suring the sessions, we will consider rabies diagnosis in animals, will discuss protection of Veterinarians and their staff, and will get familiarized with the most recent vaccination data.

We have invited a speaker who knows everything about rabies to our Infectious and Parasitic Diseases stream.
